When Bread Goes Stale

🍞 WE LOVE BREAD ❤️

Our business was built around a love for bread. From bacon sandwiches and smoked salmon bagels to soft sliced white or crusty sourdough - we pretty much love it ALL! And we're obsessed with keeping our bread fresh, for as long as possible. Prolonging the life of each loaf is an especially gratifying way to respect our home baked beauties, but an equally pragmatic method to squeeze every last penny of value out of shop bought bread.

We will soon sell our one thousandth organic cotton bread bag - the product that started it all at The Foragers Cottage - and we genuinely couldn't be more grateful to all the wonderful customers who've trusted their loaves with us 🙏. We put a lot of thought into the design and materials used in our bread bags, as we do with all of our products, to both maximise the life of our loaves and to support sustainable production practices.

🥖 STALE BREAD - IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME ⏲

We are however only postponing the inevitable - over time even the most delicious loaves won't last forever. Even the baker's best rolls stored securely in your bread bag will - eventually - go stale 😕. The best solution? Eat it quicker!

This weekend we found ourselves with some hot cross buns knocking about the kitchen that were long past their best. But what to do with them? First we broke them up into crumbs on a tea towel:

And then, inspired by this weekend's RSPB Big Bird Garden Birdwatch, we shared them with our feathered friends - laying the crumbs out on our garden bird feeder:

And now we play the waiting game...our money's on our friendly neighbourhood Robin getting there first...
